Presentation and Discussion on "Potential Linkages and Synergies between ADB GMS RETA No 6440 (Package I) / RPTCC and CEP-BCI":
Prof. Thierry Lefevre, CEERD, presented an outline of activities under ADB RETA 6440 "Facilitating Regional Power Trading and Environmentally Sustainable Development of Electricity Infrastructure in the GMS", including potential links to CEP activities. RETA 6440 has two components; i) facilitation of the development of regional power trade, and ii) capacity development for environmental impact assessment of power projects. The second component is of most relevance to CEP and provides several options for cooperation. Thierry Lefevre suggested joint power development planning training activities for government staff in Cambodia, Lao PDR and Viet Nam and a joint evaluation on regional status of SEA/EIA/EMP.
Dr. Richard Frankel, Mae Fah Luang University (and RETA 6440 Project EIA International Expert), introduced the research being undertaken at Mae Fah Luang University on various environment-livelihoods issues.
Ms. Himesha Ranamukhaarachchi, an intern co-contracted by EOC and CEERD in the framework of RETA 6440 Project was also attending the meeting.
